Now that you know what a DAO is, you may want to jump in and create your own decentralized, self-governing organization. Here is our tutorial to create a CAD from scratch!
Creating a DAO: the choice of blockchain
There is not just one blockchain that allows for the creation of DAOs. To function, your decentralized community needs a key element: a smart contract. It is simple, it is the one that governs everything, so it is important to set it up properly. Often, the Ethereum blockchain is chosen to implement smart contracts that will be used to govern the community. But Ethereum is not the only choice you have! It is possible to create a CAD on Solana, Binance SmartAvalanche or even Polkadot and Polygon. It’s up to you to make your choice according to your preferences!
Anyone can create a CAD, without having any technical knowledge. You don’t have to be a developer to start your own crypto community! There are a variety of tools available to help you in this process, suitable for beginners. A few clicks are enough to set up everything! Investment, services, NFT, charity, hedge funds, media… The possibilities are enormous for autonomous communities. Don’t hesitate to share your own adventure with us!
How to create a DAO on Ethereum
Let’s get to the heart of the matter, namely a tutorial in due form. Ethereum being the most often chosen blockchain to create DAOs, we will start this guide with it. For this you need a wallet like MetaMask, with some Ether to pay the gas fees.
Creating a DAO on Ethereum with Aragon:
Aragon is a DApp (decentralized application) on Ethereum that offers the possibility to create a DAO easily.
You have two options with Aragon:
- Use the Aragon Client service (which requires you to have at least 0.2 ETH in your wallet)
- Use the Aragon Govern service (currently in beta)
The process is done in a few steps and allows you to create a token, customize the requested collateral, enter the rules of your DAO in the blockchain… Aragon Client offers the possibility to start from a template (company, reputation, membership…) and to customize it. The length of the voting period, the minimum percentage of approval to validate a proposal… Everything is customizable!
Creating a DAO on Ethereum with DAOHaus:
DAOHaus has two creation modes for decentralized autonomous communities:
- Fun mode (Guilds, Clubs, Ventures, Grants, Products) where everything is pre-set
- The hard mode, which requires a few settings (nothing complicated!)
Again, it’s very simple. In two clicks, it is possible to create a CAD with the fun mode!
Creating a DAO on Ethereum with Colony:
Colony is another popular tool for creating a community on the Ethereum blockchain, with your own ERC-20 token or your existing token. Colony announces the implementation of a DAO on Ethereum in 90 seconds, watch in hand! We appreciate the recovery mode to prevent any action in case of skidding (practical, isn’t it?), as well as the absence of gas charges when passing through xDai. Colony is the perfect tool to create a free CAD!
Tutorial to create a CAD on Solana
Solana is a blockchain that is on the rise and could well overshadow Ethereum. A good reason to launch a DAO on Solana! For this, you will need a wallet, compatible this time with the Solana blockchain. Make sure you have a minimum of SOL tokens on your wallet to pay the fees, which are much lower than those currently seen on the Ethereum blockchain.
Creating a CAD on Solana with Squads:
Squads proposes the implementation of a decentralized community on the Solana blockchain in a very simple way. To create your “Squad“, you just have to give it a name, name your token and determine an initial amount of tokens. You will then have to choose the token allocation model and determine your rules for the voting system. All you have to do is check everything, and your Squad is ready!
Tutorial to create a CAD on the Binance Smart Chain (BSC)*.
Creation of a CAD on the Binance Smart Chain (BSC) with xDAO :
The Binance Smart Chain (BSC) also has its share of decentralized communities! To create a CAD on the BSC, xDAO is an extremely easy to use application. To use xDAO, you will need a wallet, either MetaMask or WalletConnect. xDAO does not only allow to design DAOs on the BSC since it is a multichain protocol.
Here are the different blockchains supported by xDAO:
- Binance Smart Chain (BSC)
You have to admit that it leaves the choice! This framework was launched in April 2021 and is a big hit. The DAO builder xDAO came in first at the BSC NFT & DeFi Hackathon and won other awards, including from Polygon.
- Creating a DAO requires no technical knowledge and takes only a few minutes to configure using dedicated frameworks.
- There are different tools to easily and quickly design a decentralized autonomous organization.
- Many blockchains can be chosen for the creation of a community, including Ethereum, Solana, BSC…
